We LOVE our TV Guardian! It not only filters language on movies but on most TV shows as well. We bought it from our local Family Christian Store but I know you can buy it online as well. Here's a link: http://tvguardian.com/gshell.php
The best thing is that it filters out whole phrases instead of just the bad word. If it was a single word, I know we can all mentally fill in the blank. We also have it set to insert a written phrase when one is deleted. When the new phrase pops up, you automatically read it (you can't help it!) and it keeps you from mouth-reading the offensive phrase. Cool, huh?
We've been really pleased and it has really opened our eyes to the shows that have so much bad language we seem to have "missed"-- when there's more reading than sound, you know it's bad! I highly recommend this to everyone...it even has several settings from moderate to strict (we have ours set to the highest level of filtering). If ya'll have any questions, just send me an e-mail!

I love it, too. It is nice not having to worry about the words that are slipped in here and there.
Blessings,

Wow! I didn't even know that existed! I am going to check into that today! Thanks for reading my blog. It looks like we have alot in common. :)
And man, do I like it. Sure comes in handy. It's fantastic! A great buy!
Thanks for your visit...that letter was pretty good. :-P
We bought TV Guardian several years ago and I can't imagine tv without it. It's amazing how we become so desensitized to foul language. Now I'm accutely aware when even the slightest word sneaks through.
We have it too! The bad thing is we have recommended a couple of movies to people without it and they commented on the bad language. Now I have to say, "______ is a good movie with TV Guardian!"
Go to my diary to see the latest questions! :)
Not to sound snarky or anything....but if shows with foul language are being watched does just editing the language make them Glorifying to the Lord?
I mean...if a show has that sort of language in it to begin with, that you would need a 'filter' then ummm why would one watch it to begin with?
Phil 4:8 IS the best 'filter' I've ever come across, not one made by man to make shows that IMO Christian shouldn't accept into their homes, acceptable. It hides 1 issue, but does not change the 'heart' of what is being viewed to make it Glorifying does it?
Usually shows such as those with foul language always have other 'issues' such as immodest dress, bad attitudes, sexuality (even in very minor forms), and just a whole truckload of things that for some reason most Christians have accepted so long the language is not heard.
I'm sorry, but I honestly don't get it?
I really do appreciate your honesty and completely understand what you are saying. However, I have not quite convinced dh to get rid of the tv/cable altogether...not yet anyway. We need the cable to get high speed internet since I work part-time from home; but if we had another dsl option in our home, we'd be all over it! *sigh* The kids are only allowed to watch certain shows on PBS and Nick Jr on occasion so the TV Guardian has never really been utilized at that time. It's the times that we get caught off-guard flipping channels or certain shows that dh watches on occasion...it really doesn't make sense to ruin some perfectly good movies (like Princess Bride) with cursing at the very end of the movie. But I digress... I think I'm going to like having you pop in on my blog to keep me in line!!! :-) I appreciate an honest opinion that comes from the heart. We can be so blinded by our own excuses and weaknesses to notice some things that can be very obvious to others. THANK YOU!
I'm Susan (just Susan - lol) from the FIAR boards. Thanks for commenting on my blog. We have the DVD player with TVG, we we like it, too. And I know exactly what you mean about forgetting about it when you recommend a movie to someone else. Oops! :) Good to see you here, I'll add you to my friends list!
for taking my comment only as intended. =o)
I'm not a judgemental person at all, really...but what I do say comes from the heart and my own convictions, I love the Lord with all my heart and try to only do/watch/listen to only that which glorifies Him...but that I'm near perfect mind you! Oh dear I am not!
I'll pray that the Lord work on your Dh! Mine used to be in place and after 6 months of prayer, my Dh has strong convictions himself about TV...in fact I think it would be safe for me to speak for him, that he wouldn't even approve of Princess Bride now adays! LOL ;)
God is good, and our husbands are all very unique. I am postive that is why the scripture say to be in subjection to 'YOUR OWN' husbands....each is different.
God bless!
Hi Marsha,
That's good that you are monitoring the TV in your home. We could never quite get rid of our cable but we are finding over the past several years that we have become sooooo busy as a hsing family that we rarely watch cable anymore except for news and weather! This past week we've lowered our package deal with cable to the basic minimum!
God Bless You Much!
Cathy
It's nice to *meet* you, lovely place you have here, and what handsome boys you've been blessed with!;) I just wanted to drop you a note to let you know that actually, with most cable providers, you can opt to have a cable modem only, with out the cable t.v. option. This is how we're set up. When we first got charter cable (for our cable modem), they gave us 3 mos. of free cable t.v. as well... We've been married 10.5 yrs., with only one of those having cable t.v. (as it was included with the rent for our apt. then), and we were appalled at how much worse it's gotten over the years, yikes! Even if one's watching a decent show, you have to sit on the remote to screen commercial times... I just don't have the time or patience for it. And thankfully, my hubby was the one who said NO way! to keeping the cable t.v. We do now miss the history channel, and animal planet, and hgtv (which was way too addictive for me!;)) though. But we've found that our public library carries many of their shows on video now, which is great!
Anyways, our cable company charges us less per month since we only have a cable modem, no cable t.v. They didn't like it when we asked for this arrangement, and tried to "sell" us on how much more efficient it is to have basic cable with your modem, but we opted to pluck that eye out instead, lest it cause us to sin (hubby and I found ourselves tempted to watch way too much). Now we're back to our fav. videos and dvd's. One of which happens to be The Princess Bride, btw! Our ds went through a phase a year or so ago, where every time I'd ask him to do something, he'd say "As you wish", which as you know means "I love you". He thought he was pretty clever, and got a real kick out of it (would look at me all slyly each time he said it), and of course, it was sooo precious to me!;) We've actually put tape over the holes/notches on a video, and then recorded over certain scenes that were inappropriate, or previews on one video of a video we didn't approve of, or when there was a scene in Shiloh that scared my son when he was young, and he'd asked me to "erase it Mommy", etc. Then, when one watches that video again, it'll just fuzz out for a moment, and then back to regular programming! I guess that would be the poor man's version of what you just bought! LOL! But obviously, this can't be done with a dvd. Sounds like a really nifty gadget, enjoy! And bravo to you for doing what you can with what you got! blessings!
I haven't read your other replies so I may be repeating, but we also have a TV Guardian and we also love it. We've had our for several years and somehow the 'name' of it got switched to the 'cuss box'...LOL! How funny is that?
But, we used to also have ours on the strictest setting until we just kept getting too tickled when the word 'hugs' would pop up for 's*x' and stuff like that. Oh, and when we would be watching someone preaching, it would block out 'God', so we kept missing much of the sermon! LOL!
But it IS one of the most wonderful inventions ever. Now, if someone would just come up with a way to block out commercials!
