The Day After...oh wait, it's Tuesday isn't it?

Why Christmas can be such a blur is beyond me.  Perhaps it was too many nights in a row of staying up waaaay too late and not sleeping in my own, extra large, comfy, squishy, best-in-the-entire-world bed!  I'm almost cranky but not quite this morning since I am still out of coffee filters.  I have no idea why there are still no filters left in the pantry when there were at least zero there when I left town last week.

Back to my weekend...my wonderful dad and I loaded up the old F-150 yesterday.  I loaded up all the kiddos (I think) and began the trek home-- just me and the kiddos.  Dh had to work on Christmas and then he got strep with 102 fever to boot!  Poor guy...it can be really lonely being him sometimes, especially on Christmas.

The drive wasn't too bad considering the baby took a 1.5 hour nap right before we left the house; 45 minutes into the drive my 6yo yells Mommy, my stomach really hurts!; and then we had to make another very long pit-stop for him (I'll spare y'all the details).  But the kids were pretty good, my cell phone stayed charged for most of the trip before it completely died on me, and I got to hear the boys squeal and giggle while they watched the 1960 version of Swiss Family Robinson on the portable DVD player.  They are currently outside trying to build their own tiger trap like they did in the movie.  And they've been talking excitedly about pirates and blowing things up all morning...that's good, right?!

They got quite a load of gifts over the weekend.  We spent Saturday with Dh's mom's side of the family and then Saturday night was spent with my side of the family.  Since I have 3 sisters and a brother...each getting the kids at least one gift a piece...times 3 kids...that equals a ton of great stuff!  This is in addition to the grandparents and great-grandma's!  Currently, it's all sitting in a couple of plastic bins downstairs.  Mean mommy that I am, have banned the boys from playing with them until I can sort through their current stash of toys to make room for the new stash.  So I will soon be venturing to Wal-mart to find some things to help me organize all of this...I'm thinking a few plastic bins and a small cabinet with doors on it.

Speaking of toys, my older sis Coco thought I said The baby will love anything Elmo!  Maybe I said that...but surely I must've said Get the baby anything BUT Elmo!  Yes the baby loves his new Shout Elmo...but I on the other hand...

By the way, two of my wimpy sisters did not want to play Mad Gab.  I know it's because they would've actually had to put a little effort into it and would most likely have gotten whooped at it!  So we settled down with the 1988 version of Outburst!  My memory of current events and people in 1988 is not so good-- but it made for a very funny game.  My brother, sister-in-law and I also kicked butt on Cranium...yup, weeeeeee are the chaaampions!!!

And on that note, I shall end this post.  I must get organizing so the kids can have their loot before I am deemed worst mommy of the year!

Life at our house stops without coffee. I love the aroma. I love the warmth. I love the taste. And yes, I crave the caffeine. The only thing I've found that tops it is some juice my folks got me called Xango. Great pick-me-up and chemically similar to coffee.

My wife and I can totally relate to your wanting to clean out the toy bins. My wife and I feel like we are wading in piles of unused toys. It doesn't help when family members give us McDonalds toys. We could probably start a new landfill just for those semi-useless toys. So, we're with you. Grab the rake and start bagging! Start with Elmo...

Sorry your hubby has strep. I don't think I could stand being sick on Christmas.

I would kill on 80's trivia. It is my decade.

Glad you had a good time. I hear you on all the loot that cam home! It's all still in piles sporadically around the house because I'm not sure where to put it. Plastic containers are great! Have fun getting it all together. And you better hurry!!!!

I'm a mean mommy too. LOL

Thanks for your compliment about my blog. I really appreciate it.

How is your hubby doing? I had strep throat last week. If he likes garlic, I have a recipe (for garlic soup) that I guarantee will help.

After having a couple servings of that soup, as well as drinking Emergen-C and Airborne for a couple of days, I'm back to my old self again :)

Glad to hear you made it home safe and sound. Hope DH is feeling better. Mine was in bed 1/2 a day today with a sore throat....oh, did we all suffer with that sore throat, too. ROFLOL. I love the "mean mommy" idea...I think I'm going to go get new bins...for the 10,000 wild animal pieces Santa delivered...I have stepped on way too many snake tails (these are the interchangeable wild animals sets and all of the bodies come apart into 5000 pieces). I haven't seen the new shouting Elmo. Last year my dear sis got DD chicken dance Elmo...thankfully, I only have to hear it about 4 times a year now.

I know about organizing! It hasn't been to bad with my girls but my son has tons of little pieced toys. I bought several large flat type rubbermaid containers where we store his catrs, planes legos, lincoln logs, army men etc and I stacked them in the closet. He just need needs help removing or putting the container back sometimes and we're done. It was a great help!

Be Blessed,

I loved reading all about your fantastic weekend and being "mean" Mom. I can only wish I were so organized that I could even be considered "mean" because I wanted to make room for the new stuff! LOL Is this something I should be doing?!!! LOL I'm so sorry your hubby was sick! That is such a bummer! I remember when my hubby was sick EVERY Christmas for like 5 years! I was beginning to think it was a conspiracy on his part!!

Take care and talk with you again soon!

Sounds like a wonderful Christmas! Too bad about your hubby! What does he do for a living? It's probably somewhere on your blog, but I haven't seen it.

Thanks for stopping by and telling me how you fix your salmon. :o) Sounds good!

I did the exact same thing. I got rid of SO many toys! I even got rid of some of the new toys. What they don't know won't hurt them, right? :)
